MARS AND VENUS

On the blog I often compared my colleague,  M° Navea Vera with some great figures of the past; Jean Pierre Marie Persoit, is my other favorite and in my opinion he is the one who mostly looks alike him. I understand that some of you might call me pretentious, and for this reason, the other night I enjoyed taking pictures for you of the last two creations by D.T.; Mars and Venus.

Venus; Ivory, gold and turtle

 Mars; Ebony, gold and turtle

They are too nice so I could not avoid showing them to you, and furthermore in this way I will have the opportunity to explain all parts of the bow in details.

Venus

The beauty of the stick we imagined, has maintained, if not exceeded expectations. Venus is one of the most feminine bow I ever saw. Marbled from head to frog, being very dense, and mounted in gold and ivory, with both materials of high specific weight. The stick of this bow has come out as particularly thin.

It 'been possible for the M ° Navea Vera shrinking it so much, because even if very thin, this stick has a very high sound propagation velocity and poses a good resistance thanks to the tension of its fibers. And furthermore, being so thin, gives it apart an excellent a mechanical, also an enormous flexibility of sound.

The style of the head, like that one of the frog after all , are dominating as in Persoit by a lively joyfulness. Like the Great master, the lines of this bow merge into one another revealing the author's character and personality.

For example, this head has two mouths, both of them smiling , even if in different ways. The first is more evident, the shoe in ivory, that with this inclination of the house and the curve of the base opens up in a bright and lively smile. The second, the bevel, it is a simpler smile, good-natured and generous. This is because the support of the shoe and the inclination of the house are the part that you can build more rationally. The execution of the bevel is, on the contrary, whole nature, the most moody one: the hand turns in this way and in this way it comes out.

And indeed it is here where you can understand mostly with which hand the bowmaker works. For example, Daniel is left-handed, thus the right bevel opens and enters a little more than the left one.
And speaking of bevels

These two pictures show the diversity of lap due to processing. As you can see this perspective shows how the two bevels are substantially equal in size, in the other view they appear different because the the twist is not the same.

The arrival of the stick is in perfect French style, even if the line of the ridge is also indicative of left-handed Daniel.

The frog

Unfortunately, the ivory can not show many working details except for the design of the throat. If the head Daniel says to be inspired by Sartory, even if I look at them I see him and not the distinguished colleague from the past, the throat has a “smell of Peccatte, bit it more refined.

The ring is just as important, but the blade is shorter, giving a a less coarse effect , and the top gets thinner and thinner until the end. As you can see and notice even better in the previous picture, how the upper blade decline a little bit when it reaches the skin.
This is a trick to see the crooked as straight. That is to say that , since at that point the bow has a lot of curve, if Daniel had done it straight, looking at it, it you would have given the impression to decline.

This button is parallel and with the double collar, the next one is not like this !

As you can see the bevel of the button is not huge, and being bery inclined, when you look at it frontally it is furtherly reduced .

The slide is slightly conical and as in a Peccatte's way attached to the top of the knee.

As you can see the two metal parts of the knee are not joined.

Lapping carried out with turtle and golden strip And now ...

Mars

The God of war, this is not a bow , but as I was told by a friend, an improper weapon.

Despite Daniel partially succeeded in quellintg the angry and impulsive character of this wonderful material, the overall look is more serious here than in the other one.

Streaks drawn by the vein make it impossible to completely overwhelm and dominate this material, despite all efforts, it remains a pretty determined head.

5980 m / s on a maximum value of 6000, that its ability to vibrate. Dense, concrete and powerful, unlike the previous one, it is very manly and ready to the fight. Not that old and submissive one when Venus just used to put horns on him with Adonis.

A dense, dark pulp, full of minerals, as you can see from the streaks of the head. A type of pulp that combined with the speed of sound gives this bow a warm, deep tone and an impressive volume amount .

The frog

It is even simpler to detect details on ebony. For instance, we can notice how smoothly the cheek slips into the throat.

Furthermore you can see how you your sight can be deceived . If you look properly at the eye, you will l realize that it is not perfectly located in the center, but slightly shifted to deceive our glance and show us a wrong thing as right, otherwise we would have seen it wrong. It is up to you to find out if higher or lower.

This frog as well recalls the Pecatte-way , even if the eye is more Tourte-like.

The button has a double collar and the bevel is very tilted but finally I succeded in convincing Daniel to do it conical as well ; Wonderful!

And one of the things I like most of his frogs; the perspective between the mother-of-pearl of thr eye and that one of the frog. Especially with such mother-of-pearl when you look from behind you have the sensation of enlightment.

The slide is conical and attached to the upper part of the knee.

Lapping in turtle and golden strip.

I hope you enjoyed this little digression from the story, these two bows were really too good not to show them to you.

So long

Paolo.
